Tieg has been playing guitar since he was 10-1/2 years old. At 11 he was already sitting in with his father’s classic rock band. From 1997 to 2000 he participated heavily in a 75 member performance group with lead singing, dancing and acting roles.
At 14 in his 1st semester as a freshman, he decided to take the California High School proficiency exam. By testing well above high school seniors he was allowed to graduate. This has enabled him to pursue music with no distractions. After graduating he wrote approximately 50 original songs over a four-month period.
At 15 Tieg enrolled in the guitar program (GIT) at the Musician’s Institute (MI) in Hollywood where he worked on all genres. Not yet old enough to drive kept him at school and in the practice booths for 9 to 12 hours a day which really paid off in his level of play. In February of 2004 he graduated the professional guitar program with Vocational Honors. This is the highest honor awarded at GIT. Prior to his receiving this honor, it had not been awarded for some years. In addition to this honor he was also awarded “Outstanding Student” of the year for GIT.
Even before MI, Tieg was gigging with his own band. And in MI he was one of the guitar players of choice for the singer/songwriters and forming bands. At one gig a fellow student was overheard saying “There’s Tieg, making someone sound good again”. He became quite seasoned as a stage musician and was well introduced to the Hollywood club scene by school’s end.
Since graduating he has expanded by recording for film, television, and artists ranging in musical styles from rock to pop to country.
For the past few years, Tieg has been recording under director Taron Lexton in award winning short films, documentaries and television ads which have aired to over 135 million people on more than 700 stations around the world.
Aside from joining the band CANON in May 2004, he’s landed several pop rock gigs as a performer.
He’s toured the country playing in front of thousands of people with Universal recording artist Brie Larson who also used him for a music video which was in heavy rotation on MTV. With Brie, he’s also been fortunate enough to play on Sessions@AOL and the 2 Nickelodeon shows “All That” and “U Pick Live.”
